From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Egleton is a small village and civil parish in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. It is situated south east of Oakham, and is close to the western shore of Rutland Water. The population of the village remained less than 100 at the 2011 census and was included with the parish of Burley.
Egleton is the centrepoint of the annual Bird Watching Festival (popularly known as BirdFest).
At the other end of the village is the parish church of St Edmund, which boasts a quite superb early Norman south door with a tympanum depicting a lion and dragon, while the chancel arch is also beautifully carved with Norman decorative patterns. A real gem of a church in a quiet village setting.
